These five scenes, new for 2025 and painted plein air, are examples of Hayden's astounding ability to capture an English rural scene - in this case, all in the Cotswolds - and pack in detail and atmosphere. Surface texture, aerial perspective and composition are faultless.
Here's what the artist has to say about each one:
"Cotswold Bluebells is a woodland near Kingscote, not far from Tetbury. The new beech leaves are vibrant and create a canopy that forms the lovely dappled light. This piece was begun on location and completed in the studio.
"Coaley Church was painted during the middle of the day in summertime. All the bales had been collected, except one. It’s from the edge of the escarpment looking across the Severn Vale.
"Downham Hill was painted after the sun set, late Summer. It’s from the edge of the Cotswold escarpment, looking towards Downham Hill, with the River Severn in the distance.
"Farmers' Garden is a view of Elcombe Farm, near Uley. it was painted towards the end of winter. I liked how pretty it was, even on a dull afternoon. It reminded me of the sort of subjects the Impressionists painted.
"Muddy Lane was at the end of the day: it had just stopped raining and was clearing up, hence the colour in the clouds. It is near Wotton-under-Edge, almost on the Cotswold Way.

Hayden is a highly accomplished landscape painter who, for many years, has captured vibrant landscapes in the Cotswolds, his home, and on the Cornish coast. In 2024, as a mark of his growing reputation, he fulfilled a dream to become a full-time professional artist.
Drawing inspiration from his artistic heroes – John Singer Sargent, Claude Monet and Standhope Forbes – his style is either verging on photo-realistic or impressionistic, depending on whether it is a detailed painting or a plein air sketch.
Spencer House Gallery was the first to show his landscape and coastal works. To mark the anniversary of his turning professional, we have teamed up with Hayden to offer commission packages to Spencer House Gallery clients…
Many of our regional art lovers have moved to the Cotswolds because they’ve fallen in love with a place - or a view - and would love to have an image of that cherished landscape, painted by a first class artist - but not costing the earth.
Now they can do just that. There are no hiden fees and lots of enjoyable stages in the process. Please contact us for details.
ABOUT HAYDEN PRICE
Hayden has lived in Gloucestershire for most of his life and it's the region he paints most.
The seasons, with their changing light and colours, are his inspiration and his oil work is a detailed reproduction of the atmosphere, light and depth, sometimes to photo-realistic levels. He has an astonishing ability to render natural textures, field crops and other landscape features. Works like this are painted over many months and require brushes of sometimes a single strand.
Sketching, painting and recording scenes and vistas, Hayden also travels the country and beyond to capture architecture, coast and landscape.
He has twice been accepted into the Bath Society of Artists exhibition, in the second year winning the public's favourite painting. Self-taught, he has been painting since he was 15.
